Most Auckland electricians charge $90–$150 an hour plus GST during standard hours, with a call-out or minimum-charge component on top that varies by company — some fold it into a minimum first-hour charge, some charge it separately. During our standard hours, Monday to Friday 7am–5pm, that's the rate that applies. Outside those hours the rate is higher, reflecting the disruption of an after-hours callout rather than any additional markup for its own sake.

What genuinely counts as urgent
Not everything that feels urgent needs an after-hours rate. A burning smell, sparking, exposed wiring, or a fault affecting essential circuits like the fridge or hot water for an extended period genuinely warrants urgent attention. A single tripped RCD that resets and holds, or a non-essential circuit down, can usually wait for standard hours — which saves the after-hours rate for something that would otherwise be the same job at a higher price. How to get an accurate quote over the phone
