Why distance drives the price
Run a circuit fifteen metres to a garage and cable size is barely a question. Run it eighty metres to a shed at the back of the block and voltage drop becomes the design driver: the cable has to get bigger to deliver useful voltage at the far end, and bigger cable costs real money before anyone picks up a spade. Add trenching — the other half of the cost — and you can see why a shed supply quote varies so much between properties that look similar from the road. It's also why the single best piece of advice for block owners is this: when a digger is on site for any reason, lay conduit to everywhere you might ever want power.

Do you need three phase?

For a house with a shed, a pump and a few power tools, single phase is almost always enough — the honest answer is a load assessment, not a sales pitch. Frequently asked questions
Can I run an extension lead to the shed instead?
Not as a permanent arrangement. Leads across a paddock or driveway get damaged, wet and stood on; they fail every safety test and most insurance ones. A permanent buried supply with a Certificate of Compliance is the version that holds up.
Can I dig the trench myself to save money?
Often yes, and it's a genuine saving on a long run — as long as depth, sand bedding and warning tape meet requirements. We'll tell you the spec before you start so the trench doesn't have to be redone.
Our pump keeps tripping the RCD. Pump or wiring?
Either — pumps live in damp environments and both the motor and the supply are candidates. Testing separates them quickly; often it's moisture in a junction or a failing motor winding rather than the cable.
